Date: 24th November 2025
Time: 2:00 am - 4:00 pm
Group: The I.T Crowd
Venue: Member's Home
Organiser:

After a well attended Digital Skills sessions the group wish to organise a clinic session for those having issues/problems with IT. As a trial I have asked my team to think of IT issues that they would like resolving. Clinic details will be advertised in the New Year.

Two problems were raised:

  • A laptop that was recommending a number of drivers software updates
  • A mail account that was dropping the connection

We looked in detail at the driver & updates being recommended by the pre-installed software that comes with some laptops and belived that that the updates are not required as windows 11 was up to date. These updates/driver updates mostly related to a sound card. Windows often uses its own drivers for these hardware items and doesn't need the drivers recommended by this software.

One other issue came to light when a member compalined of a certain type of pop-up on their Android phone. This feature is bubble pop ups which can be quite annoying and affect Android phones in different ways. After later investigation there are ways to turn this feature off.

The mail account dropping issue was not looked as the member who raised the issue could not attend the meeting
