The main activity of our U3A takes place within the Interest Groups which vary in both type and size.
At the last count over 35 Interest Groups (IGs) had been set up and running. The subjects covered and the frequency of the IG meetings will be determined by the group members. Many of them meet fortnightly or monthly, usually on the same day of the week.
Group Leaders
Each Interest Group is headed by a Group Leader who has an interest or expertise in the group's chosen subject. The Leader is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the activities of the group as well as making sure that everyone remains safe. They are also responsible for the costs of running the Group such as room hire, refreshments, travel costs etc.
Click on the Group name to identify the leader. However personal information is not held on the website, so to contact any leader about joining a new Interest Group, please use the Contact button on each page or contact Pauline George and she will put you in touch. As some Leaders are responsible for more than one group, please be sure to mention the name of the group you are interested in when you use the Contact button.
Prospective new Group Leaders
Anyone who volunteers will receive help. Pauline George can help you set up the group.
She will help you find you somewhere to meet, advertise the new Group, set you up on Beacon, with Anne Jones' help and guide you through the process.
Beryl Blood will help where she can, she may suggest ‘learning guidelines' for you to follow, initially, until you get used to sharing your knowledge. You will be surprised by how helpful the members can be, often members already have an interest in the subject they want to join.
There are lots of little jobs the leader can negotiate to make life easier for themselves and the more committed members feel to their group, the more they get out of and enjoy being a member of KN u3a. Please don’t imagine running a group is complicated, it isn’t!
Some members know how to operate our data system and will help with the office side of things. If you engage members in running things, i.e. making coffee, putting chairs/tables out, taking the register/expense monies, typing up the register documents to help efficiently they will be enormously helpful.
We have negotiated a reciprocal arrangement with Moseley, Kings Heath and District U3A for specific groups, where members from each U3A can join in. The Interest Group Coordinators have information about reciprocal arrangements. As membership of the IGs, settles down the Committee will review the position.

Group leaders who book halls or transport for their Group may find the cost is cheaper if they quote our Charities registration No 1176838 .
