Walking over 5m

Status:Active, open to new members
Coordinator:
When: Fortnightly on Thursdays
Week 2 & Week 4

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday each month (with occasional variations due to Christmas and other bank holidays). Walks are normally of between 6 and 8 miles, using a variety of paths, tracks, tow-paths and avoiding roads as far as possible. They are aimed at those with some country walking experience but are not overly strenuous, although they may well include hilly bits. Participants are expected to have sturdy boots or shoes and carry waterproofs and/or sun-gear, as appropriate, a packed lunch and also snacks and drink.

Details of each walk are emailed to all group members a few days before each event. These specify the start and/or meeting place and time for each walk (usually 10 to 10:30 am). Lifts can be arranged if you have no transport or prefer not to drive. We aim to finish walking by 3 pm and except for a very few special cases, walks are within a 1 hour drive.

Last year our walks ranged from local walks based on Alcester, Baggeridge, Blakedown, Chaddesley Corbett and Dodford, and further afield from Mamble, Beckbury (Staffs), the Wrekin and the Heart of England Forest.

This year, so far, we've stayed local with a geology walk through Birmingham City Centre (!), a walk around Birmingham canals, and visited the snowdrops at Cofton and further afield at Tuck Hill (Shropshire).
